Urine volume and concentration is regulated through the same processes that regulate blood volume. Anti diuretic hormone(ADH) - produced by the posterior pituitary gland- increases the amount of water reabsorbed in the distal convoluted tubule and collecting gland

Primary urine (glomerular filtrate) formed in the kidneys contains large amount of water, metabolic wastes like urea, uric acid and many useful substances such as glucose, Amino Acids, salts, etc. As this filtrate passes through the tubular parts of the nephron, useful substances such as glucose, amino acids, salts and a major amount of water, are selectively reabsorbed in the blood. The amount of water reabsorbed depends on how much excess of water there is in the body, and on how much of dissolved water there is to be excreted. It occurs under hormonal control by antidiuratic hormone.
