the carbon atoms form ccp so 4 carbon atoms are involved in forming the ccp.

and carbon atoms also occupy alternate tetrahedral voids

alternate tetrahedral voids = 8/2 =4

so total 8 atoms are present in the primitive unit cell of diamond.
