Six denticulate plates are present in the gizzard of cockroach. Gizzard is the part of alimentary canal of cockroach and comes after the crop. food enters from the crop to the gizzard which functions to grind the food with the help of the denticulate plates. It serves the same as mouth and here the food is mechanically processed i.e. grounded to increase the surface area for further chemical processing and then passed to the intestine for complete digestion and nutrient absorption.
