As there are 4 sub shells, those will be :- s,p,d,f giving a total of = 1+3+5+7= 16 orbitals and 1 electrons for each orbital with ms= -1/2 and +1/2 each.. Thus there will be 16 such electrons.

For n = 4 there will be a total of 32 electrons.

For n= 4 we will have the subshell values from 0 to n-1. Therefore, the value of l will be

l = 0, 1, 2, 3

Now for each value of l we will have a magnetic quantum number from -l to l. Therefore,

for l = 0; m = 1

for l = 1; m = -1, 0, 1 = 3

for l = 2; m = -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 = 5

for l = 3; m = -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3 = 7

Therefore we will have total 1 + 3 + 5 + 7 = 16 orbitals.

Now in each orbital we will have two electrons of opposite spin, Therefore there will be total 16x2 = 32 electrons.
