H2O and C2H4 have no lone pair as all of their electrons are bonded with surrounding atoms
but in the case of NH3 ( atom of N has 5 electrons ) only 3 out of 5 electron in the valence shell is bonded with the three surrounding H atoms so the other 2 electrons left in the valence shell form a lone pair
