Despite what many people believe, there are large parts of the world which are still not democratic.
E.g. China with more than 1.3 billion people is still ruled by one party state, so even here, we can say that approx. 1/6th of the world is not under democratic rule.
Let's have a look at some parts of Middle East such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Syria,Morocco etc. By and large most arab speaking middle eastern and Norther African countries are not democratic and are mostly ruled by a single family as kingdoms. These areas have approx. 300 million people, so we are now up to 1.6 billion people.
Russia is said to be officially democractic but hs been ruled by just one person since the last 20 years which many western observers point out to as a dictatorship. Many former Soviet states such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kgrzystan, Turkmenistan, and recent semi-states such as South Ossetia and Crimea are not democratic. Let's add another 200 million to the equation.
We are now up to 1.8 billion. Let's look at some other places such as Asia, places like Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong and even South America there are many non democratic countries.
Estimated around 25-30% of the world's population live in non-democratic countries

About one-fourth part of the globe is not still under a democratic government. And around 167 countries in the world consist of Democratic Government and 165 among them are the members of United Nations. Nepal was under the monarchy and it has changed to democracy just now. And the reason behind this is that the existing government will be eradicated fully which is why these countries do not support the idea of Democratic Government.
