how much salt must be added to a 60 litres of a 20% solution of salt to increase it to a 40%solution of salt?

Apply mixture and Allegation concept:

20% salt 100%salt

40% salt

(100-40)60 : 20(40-20)

3:1 (ratio of 20% salt solution to pure salt)
Therefore,

20x(3:1)
60:20

Clearly 20 lit of pure salt must be added in 20% salt solution to get 40% salt solution.
