oxidation and reduction works simultaneously in redox reaction
Oxidation-Reduction Reactions. Redox reactions are comprised of two parts, a reduced half and an oxidized half, that always occur together. The reduced half gains electrons and the oxidation number decreases, while the oxidized half loses electrons and the oxidation number increases.
Reaction between Fe(II) and CuSO4 solution
Fe + CuSO4 → FeSO4 +Cu
(Fe oxidized, Cu reduced)

oxidation refers to losing of electrons and reduction refers to gaining of electrons.this reaction in which OXIDATION and reduction takes place simultaneously are referred to known as redox reaction.
