How potential energy decrease when atoms form covalent bonds?

Chemical bonding is said to be the “glue” that holds particles (atoms, ions, molecules) together in matter. ... For these atoms to attain full valence shells and be stable, they must bond with other atoms. When atoms bond, energy of the atoms decreases as they become more stable.
