Transmission of sound:
A vibrating body creates disturbance in the surrounding medium , namely air. This disturbance created in medium is called sound wave. The vibrating body disturbs the molecules of the medium and sets them to vibrate these molecules in turn vibrate the nearby molecules. Thus vibrations are carried forward from one part to the next until they reach.
working of ear:
The sound waves coming from source are collected by pinna of outer ear.
These sound waves passes through ear canal and fall on ear drum, which starts vibrating . The vibrating ear drum causes a small bone ,hammer to vibrate. From hammer , vibrations are passed on to second bone "anvil" and then third bone "stirrup."
These amplified vibrations are passed on to liquid in cochlea (inner ear) . This liquid of cochlea sets up electrical impulses in the nerve cell present in it.
These electrical impulses are carried by auditory nerve to the brain.
Then at last the brain interprets these electrical impulses as sound and we get the sensation of hearing
