#After 17 years of dictatorship by the dictator Pinoceht, who killed Chile's
president -allendae and ruled. He gave a referendum to the people of Chile,
to say yes or no to his rule.
#Pinochet thought that he would definitely win,but the people of chile said NO to his rule so he was not able to rule the country forever.
#So,after that the people of Chile got freedom from his rule and became
democratic.then in 2006 election Michelle Bachlet won and became president.
this is my simple answer :)

Chile gained democracy in 1990 after 17 year military rule under the General Pinochet. On that year, he gave the people a referendum to choose him as their ruler. He lost by over 54% and the country had to revert to a democracy with elected presidents. It has now had 5 presidents rule the country as a democracy.
