it is the same. When we see 'd then we should look at what is followed by' d 'to draw a conclusion
Ex:
- He'd gone home = He had gone home (we see after 'd is a Verb in column 3 or past participle, so this is definitely Had, to form the Had + V3 / PP structure)
- I'd like some tea = I would like some tea ('d means would, because after would be a prototype verb)
- I'd rather live in Paris = I would rather live in Paris (would rather mean like ... more)
