he French Revolution was a revolt from the Third Estate (the poorest
French citizen) against the Absolute power of the two other estates (The
Clergy and the Nobility). The Estates General met in May 1789 and The
revolutionaries took control of the country, they declared themselves a
National Assembly during the Tennis Court Oath in June 1789. The
storming of the Bastille on July 14th, 1789 was when a mob of supporters
of the Revolution stormed the king's prison and destroyed this symbol
of Louis XVI absolute power. During the Declaration of the rights of men
and citizen on August 26th, 1789 The revolutionaries wrote France a
constitution. The Monarchy officially ended on September 21st, 1792 and
France became a Republic. Afterward s The Reign of Terror (1793-1794)
was run by Robespierre who killed thousands he considered treasonous
including the King and Queen. Until he himself was killed in July 1794.
The country tried in some ways to mimic the American constitution, but
in the end their revolution failed with the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte.
