There’s no way to know, a priori, whether any of the common resolution methods (crystallization, chiral derivatizing agents, or chiral column chromatography) will work on a particular racemic mixture. You’d have to try. It’s always better if you can do stereoselective chemistry to avoid having to deal with the racemate.
