\huge {\mathcal{\purple{H}\green{e}\pink{y}\blue{!}}}

For atoms, valency is the number of electrons gained, lost or shared by an atom to complete its octet (basically, to achieve its noble gas configuration). If the number of electrons in the outermost shell is less than 4, then the valency is the same as the number of electrons in the outermost shell.

Hope it helps you mark as brainliest please

Explanation:

To identify valency,firstly you need to know the definition of it

Combining capacity of elements is called valency

For every element except noble gas elements ,,they try to acquire the noble gas configeration

So some elements have extra electrons whereas some have less electrons than required

So the electrons in the outermost shell represents valence electrons and losing or gaining them represents valency
