Plaster of Paris is prepared from gypsum.
Gypsum is calcium sulphate dehydrate that is CaSO4.2H2O.
When gypsum is heated to a temperature of 100°C it loses three fourth of it's water of crystallization and forms plaster of Paris.
CaSO4.2H2O----->CaSO4.1/2H2O + 1×1/2H2O
