During 18th century, the French society was divided into three estates.
1.clergy
they were church people. they have many privileges from birth. they also have exemption from paying tax to anyone. they levied a tax named tithe from third estate.
2 . nobility
The group of noble people was called nobility. they also have exemption from paying tax to anyone. they levied a tax named taille from the third estate. this tax was a direct tax given to Estate.
3.third estate
it comprises of big businessman, lawyers, court officials, peasants, artisans, labourers, and rest of the society. all burden of paying taxes was on them.
