How was sher singh a hero in the story journey by night by norah burke??

In the story of Journey by night,sher singh was the hero as we know that in the stories the person who saves a life,knid-hearted and very brave was considered as hero and in this story Sher singh saves a life, was very brave,kind-hearted,make his own way.He have all the qualities by which he was able to considered as a hero in the story.
