The narrator was waiting for Mrs Dorling in her house , from where she recognized that most of the things in that house belonged to her mother. Those things were given to Mrs Dorling to be taken care during the time of the war and now she had come to take back her things but fails to do so. The narrator found the burn mark on the table-cloth and thus recognized her own familiar woollen table-cloth.
