How wave theory fails to explain the experimental results of photoelectric effect ?

According to the wave theory in the subject of physics, the energy of the wave is dependent upon the amplitude of the wave.
This means that the light of any frequency can make the electrons come out of a metal.
However this does not explain the photoelectric effect which can only be explained through the nature of the particle and not the light wave.
