Similarities between Tagore and Gandhi:
a. Both believed in the practical knowledge that would allow child to do some creative work through art, crafts, child must be allowed to learn outside the rigidities of books, discipline as established by the British.
b. Both believed that education must bring about holistic development of child's personality.
Difference between Tagore and Gandhi:
a. Gandhiji was critical of modern western education which according to him it has enslaved us while Tagore believed in combining the best elements of modern education with Indian Traditions..

Both Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi thought about education in similar ways. But there were differences too. Gandhiji was highly critical of Western civilisation and its worship of machines and technology. Tagore wanted to combine elements of modem Western civilisation with what he saw as the best within Indian tradition. He emphasised the need to teach science and technology at Shantiniketan, alongwith art, music and dance.
