Petroleum is formed due to bacterial decomposition of marine orgainism in water millions of years ago. As they sank deeper they subjected to high temperature and pressure. The gas portion changed into Natural Gas and liquid part seeped through porus and non- porus rocks called petroleum or crude oil.
