Hey !

Here is your answer !!

________________

When Cl2 is passed through methane, one Cl atom displaces one of the H atoms from CH4 and methane turns into chloromethane.

CH4 + Cl2 ---> CH3Cl + HCl

Methane gets converted to chlorine with chlorine as a reactant in the presence of Ultraviolet(UV) light or a temperature above 300°C.

Methane reacts with chlorine to form monochloromethane ( CH3Cl) and hydrochloric acid( HCl).On further reaction with chlorine it forms di-chloro, tri-chloro and tetrachloromethane.

The reactions are given as follows:

CH4 + Cl2 --------> CH3Cl + HCl

CH3Cl + Cl2 -------->CH2Cl2 + HCl

CH2Cl2 + Cl2--------> CHCl3 + HCl

CHCl3 + Cl2 ----------> CCl4 + HCl
