You can feed a patient easily by following some simple steps.
*Sit on a chair that is as close to the patient’s bed as possible.
*Allow him/her to see what is on the plate and decide which food item he/she would like to eat first.
*Take a small amount of food in a spoon and place it in the patient’s mouth. Ask him/her to see if he/she can chew and swallow that quantity comfortably. If not, you may want to add some water to the spoon.
*Let the person eat at his/her own pace and give him/her to chew the food fully.
*Ask him/her if she is ready for the next mouth of food.
*Stop the feeding if he/she says that he/she has had enough food.
