A social learning theorist account for a phobic fear of lizards/cockroaches:

  • Social learning is our experience at start of your life either it may be positive or negative.
  • Small children play with snakes and they are not aware of the danger involved as they grew up the fear of these things are instilled by their parents and society for reactions like phobia.

Psychoanalyst account for the same phobia:

  • A psychoanalyst account means involve attribution to some unconscious/ repressed experiences.
  • For example, a small group of rowdy boys brutally torturing cockroach/lizard in your childhood, but eventually died, but after some days it reminds forever phobia of lizard/cockroach which might disturbs emotionally.
