- Hyder Ali, (1720 – 7 December 1782) was the Sultan of Mysore in southern India and the de facto ruler.
- Born Hyder Ali, he rose to prominence as a soldier, attracting the attention of Mysore's rulers. As Krishnaraja Wodeyar II's Dalavayi (commander-in-chief), he came to rule the nominal monarch and the Mysore government.
