The word “Hydrogen” comes from the Latin “Hydrogenium”. The “Hydro” root means “Water” in Greek and the root “gen” comes also from the Greek “Genos” meaning “to generate”, “to create”.

Hydrogen was discovered in 1776 by the British Chemist Henry Cavendish (1731–1810), the name “Hydrogen” was created in 1787 by the French Scientist Antoine Levoisier (1743–1794) and means “Water Creator”, “Water generator” when 2 atoms of Hydrogen combine with one atom of Oxigen to create 1 molecule of water.
