hydrogen is not in the name of chlor alkali process even though it is a bi product.
Why????

There is no such reason why hydrogen isn't in the name of the "chlor-alkali" process. It is just that, in the electrolysis of sodium chloride, common salt, we get hydrogen gas, chlorine gas and sodium hydroxide as a product. Thus, to give a unique name to the reaction, it is termed as "chlor-alkali" process, chlor for chlorine and alkali for sodium hydroxide, which is an alkali.
