two prominent leaders of dr.satyapal and dr.saifuddin kitchlew were arrested on April 13,1919.more than 10,000 people had gathered in jallian wala bagh at Amritsar to protest against the arrest of leaders. the British troops commander was general dyer.he ordered his men to shoot the peaceful unarmed crowd without giving any warning.martial law was imposed. rabindranath Tagore reannounced his knighthood award in protest against this incident.
