Polyester (PES) – Fibers, textiles
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) – Carbonated drinks bottles, peanut butter jars, plastic film, microwavable packaging
Polyethylene (PE) – Wide range of inexpensive uses including supermarket bags, plastic bottles
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) – Detergent bottles, milk jugs, and molded plastic cases
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) – Plumbing pipes and guttering, shower curtains, window frames, flooring
Polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) – Food packaging, such as Saran
Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) – Outdoor furniture, siding, floor tiles, shower curtains, clamshell packaging
Polypropylene (PP) – Bottle caps, drinking straws, yogurt containers, appliances, car fenders (bumpers), plastic pressure pipe systems
Polystyrene (PS) – Foam peanuts, food containers, plastic tableware, disposable cups, plates, cutlery, compact-disc (CD) and cassette boxes...

hope it would be helpful : )

Common plastics and their uses :-
-----------------------------------------------------------

1.) Polythene :

Polythene is obtained by polymerisation of Ethene ( CH2 = CH2 ) . It is non-Biodegradable being insoluble in all kinds of solvent. It can be moulded into any shape and any number of times. It is light weighted, anti- corrosionent, and an insulator.

Uses

» used for carry bags, adhesive tapes etc.
» used for making storing containers for kitchen.
» used as a insulator for electric wires.

2.) PVC ( Polyvinyl chloride ) :

It is prepared by the polymerisation of Vinyl chloride . It is also a thermoplastic.

uses

» used for making soles of shoes.
» used for covering electric wires as insulators.
» used for making sanitary fittings.

3.) Polystyrene :

It is a polymer of polythene . polystyrene is a thermoplastic . It is highly transparent polymer.

uses

» used for making hot drink cups, toys, houshold articles, etc.
» used as an insulating material in refrigerators.
» used for making styrofoam ( or thermocole ).

4.) Teflon :

It is prepared by polymerisation of tetra flouroethene. Heat and chemicals are ineffective on Teflon.

uses

» used for making non stick cookware.
» used in chemical industry as corrosion proof coating.

5.) Bakelite :

Bakelite is a thermosetting polymer. once set into shape , Bakelite does not melt / soften and retain it's shape . It is an Insulator.

uses

» used for making electrical switches, and plugs.
» used for making Combs, fountain pen bodies, phonograph records.
» used for making gear wheels and table top laminates.

6.) Melamine :

Melamine is also a thermosetting polymer. It is hard and a highly polished polymer.

Uses

» used for making unbreakable kitchenware...
