The pressure in a static fluid arises from the weight of the fluid and is given by the expression
P static fluid = ρgh where ρ = m/V = fluid density
g = acceleration of gravity
h = depth of fluid
The most remarkable thing about this expression is what it does not include. The fluid pressure at a given depth does not depend upon the total mass or total volume of the liquid. Let's consider a layer of fluid first of all.
Now the first parameter is depth -
If the fluid layer under consideration is deeper then it will have more amount of fluid on it's top as compared to the situation when it's considered higher. Thus,the fluid above will apply more pressure on the lower layer.
Now let's consider the second parameter, density-
With the increase in density the weight of the fluid above the considered layer will also increase hence increasing the pressure.
