There are numerous compounds which on hydrogenation gives optically active compounds. I'll give a couple of examples here.
◆ Optically active compound-
An optically active compound is one which is capable of rotating the plane of vibration of polarized light to the right or left.
◆ Examples-
Following compounds on hydrogenation gives optically active compound.
1. CH3-CH=CH-CH(Br)-CH3
2. CH2=C(CH3)-CH(Cl)-CH3
