substitute x= -4 in first equation,
16+px-4=0
-4p=-12
p=3------> (1)
second equation has equal roots.
so the discriminant should be zero.
discriminant for ax^2+bx+c=0 is b^2-4ac
For the second equation of the question
a=1 b=p c=k
so p^2-4*1k=0
9-4k=0 (since p=3 from above (1))
k=9/4.
