Hello!

According to question,

a - b = 3

a = 3 + b (first equation)

ab = 4 (second equation)

Using value of 'a' in the second equation

=> (3 + b) b = 4

= 3b + b² = 4

= b² + 3b - 4 = 0

= b² + 4b - 1b - 4 = 0

= b (b + 4) - 1 (b + 4) = 0

= (b - 1) (b + 4)

=> b = 1, -4

using value of b in first equation

= a = 3 + 1 and a = 3 - 4

a = 4, -1

therefore, a + b = 4 + 1 and a + b = - 1 + (-4)

=> a + b = 5 and -5
