Case I:-

Given that

a.b = a.c

a.b - a.c = 0

a. (b - c) = 0

⇒ Either a = 0 or   b - c = 0

But a ≠ 0 (Given)

⇒  b - c = 0

     b = c      As Required

Case II:-

Given that

a × b = a × c

a × b - a × c = 0

a × (b - c) = 0

⇒ Either a = 0 or   b - c = 0

But a ≠ 0 (Given)

⇒  b - c = 0

     b = c      As Required
