If a bar magnet of pole strength 'm' and magnetic
moment 'M' is cut equally 5 parts parallel to its
axis and 4 parts perpendicular to its axis then
the pole strength and magnetic moment of each
piece are respectively

If a magnet is cut perpendicular to its length then the pole strength of the pieces is the same as that of the bar magnet (i.e., each piece’s pole strength will be ‘m’).

If a magnet is cut parallel to its length then the pole strength of the pieces becomes half (i.e, m/2).
