Given :

One mole of hydrogen and one mole of helium is mixed at temperature T .

To Find :

Average internal energy per mole of gas mixture .

Solution :

We know , average energy is given by :

U=\dfrac{f}{2}nRT

Here , f is degree of freedom and n is number of moles .

For , mono atomic , f =3 .

For , diatomic , f = 5 .

Average energy of system is :

U=\dfrac{U_{H_{2}}+U_{He}}{2}\\\\U=\dfrac{\dfrac{5}{2}RT+\dfrac{3}{2}RT}{2}\\\\U=\ 2RT

Therefore , the average internal energy per mole of gas mixture is 2RT .
