Hi friend ,
This all is caused due to pressure.
Pressure refers to mass per unit are.
If a man stands on chair then the mass is same but the area of contact with the chair will be less. Hence the pressure will be more and it's chances of breaking will also be more.
ON THE OTHER HAND
If a man sits on chair then the mass will be the same but the area of contact will be more.Hence the pressure will be less and it's chances of breaking will be less.

because when one sits one occupy more space so the pressure decrease
pressure=force/area
so when area increases force decrease as they are inversely proportional
