here,

a = 1

b = -1

c = k

α and β are the zeroes of the given polynomial .

We also have given,

α - β = 9 the difference between the zeroes

We have to find the value of k.

We know that,

α + β = -b/a

= -(-1/1)

= 1

α + β = 1 ................(1)

But, we have given that,

α - β = 9 .................(2)

Now, add the equation no. (1) and (2) we get,

α + β = 1
α - β = 9
----------------
2α = 10

α = 10/2

α = 5

α = 5 taking in equation no. (1) we get

α + β = 1

5 + β =1

β = 1 - 5

β = -4

Now,

αβ = c/a

5* (-4) = k/1

-20 = k/1

k = -20
