Solution :

We know , according to law of refraction , refractive index R is given by :

$R=\dfrac{sin\ i}{sin\ r}$

Here , i and r are angle of incident and refraction respectively .

Putting value of i and r in above equation .

We get ,

$\sqrt{2}=\dfrac{sin\ 45^o}{sin\ r}\\\\sin\ r=\dfrac{1}{\sqrt{2}\times\sqrt{2} }\\\\sin\ r=\dfrac{1}{2}\\\\sin \ r=sin\ 30^o\\\\r=30^o$

Therefore , angle of refraction is $30^o$ .
