Explanation:

Blood is isotonic. Hypertonic solutions have less water ( and more solute such as salt or sugar ) than a cell. ... If you place an animal or a plant cell in a hypertonic solution, the cell shrinks, because it loses water ( water moves from a higher concentration inside the cell to a lower concentration outside ).

When blood cells are kept in salt water, the cell will shrink and shrivel.

Explanation:

  • The salt water refers to the solution in which the concentration of solutes (salt) is very high.
  • On the other hand, the solute concentration in blood cell is less than concentration in the solution.
  • Due to this reason osmosis occurs, a phenomenon in which water moves from the lower concentration region to higher concentration region.
  • As a result, the water from the blood cell oozes out to the environment and thus the cell becomes shrink and shrivel.
  • As the cell shrinks in the salt solution, it is considered as  as hypertonic.
