Step-by-step explanation:

AccordingtotheQuestion

p(x) = x² - 2x - 8

→Splitting the middle term we get :-

= x² - 4x + 2x - 8

= x(x - 4) + 2(x - 4)

⇒(x - 4)(x + 2) = 0

⇒(x - 4) = 0

⇒x = 4

⇒(x + 2) = 0

⇒x = -2

Two zeroes of the polynomial are 4 and -2

Relationshipbetweenzeroesandcoefficient

★Sum of zeroes = α + β

= 4 + (-2)

= 4 - 2

= 2

★Product of zeroes :-

= α × β

= 4 × -2

= -8

★Put,

ax² + bx + c = 0

a = 1, b = -2 and c = -8

★Sum of Zeroes :-

{\boxed{\sf\:{\alpha+\beta=-\dfrac{b}{a}}}}

α+β=−

a

b

{\boxed{\sf\:{\alpha+\beta=-\dfrac{-2}{1}}}}

α+β=−

1

−2

= 2

★Product of zeroes :-

{\boxed{\sf\:{\alpha\times\beta=\dfrac{c}{a}}}}

α×β=

a

c

{\boxed{\sf\:{\alpha\times\beta=\dfrac{-8}{1}}}}

α×β=

1

−8

= -8
