If there are 5,000 voters out of which 20% are not eligible to vote and there are two candidates contesting? The winning candidates won by 15% of votes? What is the total number of votes he got ?

Solution:

We have given the total number of the voters is 5000

where 20% of the voters are not eligible voters.

so 1000 voters are not eligibles.

The number of the eligible voters are 4000

Let the winning candidate get X votes

and the losing candidates get Y votes

And it is given in the question that:

The winning candidates won by 15% of votes

15 % of 4000 = 600

So we get the equations for the given condition is given by:

X + Y = 4000

X - Y = 600

On solving we get the value of X as 2300 and Y as 1700

The total number of votes winning candidates got is 2300
