if x=1/2 is a solution of quadratic equation 3x²+kx-3=0 find the value of k. ​

Solution :

The given quadratic equation is :

> 3x² + kx - 3 = 0

One of the roots is 1/2.

Let the other root be x .

Sum of roots :

½ + x = -b/a = -k/3

Product of roots :

> ½x = -3/3 = -1

> x = -2 .

The other root is -2 .

-k/3 = ½ - 2

> -k/3 = -3/2

> k = 9/2 = 4.5

Answer : The value of k is 4.5
