If x-1/x=8, find the value of (x power2+1/x power2) and (x power4+1/x power4)

Answer:

x-1/x=8

squaring on both sides

(x-1/x) ^2=8^2

xpower2+1/x power2-2*x*1/x=64

xpower2+1/x power2 - 2=64

xpower2+1/x power2=66

again squaring on both sides

xpower4+1/x power4+2*xpower2*1/x power2=4356

xpower4+1/x power4+ 2=4356

xpower4+1/x power4=4354
