x +  \frac{1}{x}  = 8 \\  \\ taking \:  \: square \:  \: on \:  \: both \:  \: side ... \\  \\  {(x +  \frac{1}{x} )}^{2}  =  {(8)}^{2}  \\  \\  {(x)}^{2}  + 2 +  \frac{1}{ {(x)}^{2} }  = 64 \\  \\  {(x)}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {(x)}^{2} }  = 64 - 2 \\  \\  {(x)}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {(x)}^{2} }  = 62
