rationalising the denominator of the value of x and y we get

x=3-2√2 y=3+2√2

therefore ,

(x+y)² +3xy

= (3-2√2+3+2√2)²+3×(3-2√2)(3+2√2)

=6²+3×3²-(2√2)²

=36+3×1

=39
