vinikaarora2111: Thanks so much but can you tell me how is 3 underoot coming??
hannahtap: So when you can't get a whole number under the square root you can break up the big number under the radical (square root symbol). The number is 18 and gets broken up into 3 and 2.
hannahtap: they broke 18 up into 9 and 2 because 9x2=18. the square root of 9 is 3. they picked these numbers because you want the highest number possible that can multiply into the original number. I hope that made sense. If not, I would love to clarify further.
hannahtap: 2 stays under the radical because it does not have a perfect square root and it itself an irrational number.
anoopsingh2: root 2 is a irrational number
vinikaarora2111: Ok thanku
anoopsingh2: welcome

If you are asking if x multiplied by x (x squared) is equal to 18 then x is an irrational number. A whole number squared does not equal 18.
2x2=4
3x3=9
4x4=16
5x5=25
