If x+y=14 and x-y=2 then find the value of x

x+y = 14
y = 14-x

x-y = 2
x-(14-x) = 2
x-14+x = 2
2x = 14+2
x = 16/2
.•. x = 8

x+y = 14
x = 14-y ...........(1)
x-y=2.........(2)
put the value of (1) in (2)
14-y-y = 2
14-2y = 2
-2y = 2-14
-2y = -12
y = -12/-2
y = 6
then x = 14-y
=14-6
x =8
