x²+1/x²=38
=>(x-1/x)^2+2.x.1/x=38
=>(x-1/x)^2=36
=>(x-1/x)=√36
=+-6

Given ,

⇒ x² + 1 / x² = 38.

We have to find the value of x - 1 / x.

⇒ ( x - 1/x )² = x² + 1/x² - 2 * x * 1/x

⇒ ( x - 1/x )² = x² + 1/x² - 2

By substituting the value of ( x² + 1/x² ) in above equation ,

⇒ ( x - 1/x )² = 38 - 2

⇒ ( x - 1/x )² = 36

⇒ ( x - 1/x ) = √36

∴ ( x - 1/x ) = ±6.

So, ( x - 1/x ) = ±6.
